The Beginning

This is the story of Deanna and Colleen, two old friends, separated now for years by the distance of oceans and continents. Yet the two have remained connected through mutual aspirations to see the world and a shared spirit of adventure. The girls will meet again, not in their home country of Canada, but on the trails of the Annapurna Circuit in Nepal.

Dee and Colleen met in 2002, on the first day of school at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada. Hailing from Sault Ste. Marie and Winnipeg respectively, the girls formed an instant friendship. On the third day of class, Dee leaned toward Colleen, inquiring, "You're new here, too, eh?" "Yes," Colleen replied. "Do you want to go to Montreal this weekend?" "Yes." It was an epic weekend and the following years have proven nothing less.

Whimsical stories aside, the girls will tackle the Annapurna Circuit for three to four weeks in December 2010 - January 2011. Dee will be on summer break from university in Perth, Australia, and Colleen will have just completed a one-year contract teaching English in Chuncheon, South Korea. While things are still very much in the preliminary planning stages, the girls have some great ideas for their adventure and are seriously stoked to get going.

Readers will be able to follow all the preparations here. Ideally, posts will also be made to document the travel and trekking portion of the adventure, as well. Most certainly, follow-ups with Dee and Colleen after the trip will be included. This is also to be a potential forum for reader involvement. The girls greatly welcome any advice, suggestions, and encouragement from their readers.
